Hawaii Volcanoes National Park: This park encompasses volcanic creations that range from sea level to the summit of the earth's most massive volcano, Mauna Loa at 13,677 feet. Kilauea, the world's most active volcano, offers scientists clues on the fiery evolution of the Hawaiian Islands and visitors views of fascinating volcanic landscapes.

Mauna Kea: Measuring 5.6 miles tall from sea floor to summit, this volcano began erupting about 800,000 years ago. Most of the volcano is made of shield-building lava which began accumulating about 300,000 years ago, producing cinder cones and lava flows that cover most of its present-day surface.

Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park: This park marks the area where, up until the early 19th century, islanders who violated a kapu (one of the ancient laws against the gods) could escape to avoid a sure mortal punishment! The 180+ acre park includes a number of archeological sites including great walls, ceremonial platforms and royal ponds.

Kealakekua Bay: A great spot to snorkel, witness a frequent dolphin sighting and visit the Captain Cook Monument, erected in 1874 by his British countrymen, which marks the area where his namesake was killed by Hawaiians in 1779.
